長野県に隣接する愛知山間部の花祭は、中世の頃の祭りの姿がそのまま伝承されている。民俗学の宝庫といわれる花祭は、芸能のルーツとして能楽師や歌舞伎役者たちが勉強に来るほどに価値が高い。一昼夜以上色々な鬼や子どもの舞、剽軽な舞などが次々に現れ、最後には湯を観客にまきちらし、獅子舞でめでたくおしまいとなる。

Flower festivals held in Aichi’s mountainous areas next to the Nagano prefecture have been handed down in its true colors in the medieval times. These flower festivals are referred to as a treasure of folklore, and are highly regarded as a root of entertainment that many Nohgaku and Kabuki actors come and join to study the traditional way of performing. The festival lasts round the clock with various dances, such as dances by Oni (Japanese Demon), by children and waggish dance. Finally the festival ends by spreading hot water to the audience and a lion dance.
